Cut Tenons with Handtools

This tutorial shows how I cut tenons with simple hand tools.

I like to use the tried and true mortise and tenon when I make furniture. I also like to reduce the amount of wood dust I create. So I taught myself how to cut tenons with simple hand tools instead of power tools.

Here are the tools I use:

  • Backsaw (16″)
  • Miter Box (I built my own to save money)
  • Marking Gauge
  • Chisel
  • Jointer’s Mallet
  • Shoulder Plane
  • Workbench with a vise
